MY DC REVIEW PART 3
My cousin Raul came through to scoop Marv and I to take us to Howard’s homecoming game. I haven’t seen my cuz in several years, so it was really great to be able to be with family while on the road conducting business. We headed
down 7th St and Rhode Island towards the university. Marv and I was tripping out talking about our journey so far. We saw Barack Obama murals and posters all over the city. I can remember my cousin clowning Sarah Palin. He said that he was going to leave the country if McCain won the election. (Lucky for us, we’re still here with a new president)
So we made it to Georgia Avenue and found a great parking place.
We walked towards the campus as I noticed all of the beautiful black people. There were such a variety of styles of dress from the greeks to the conservative all the way to the funky. I remember wearing my I Love Harlem tee, jeans, and a Gap hoodie. We walked towards the football field, in which I wasn’t really interested in watching no damn game. I wanted to absorb all of the beauty Howard had to offer, and believe me when I say, that had a lot!

Marv and I walked down the street towards this impromptu concert on the porch of what looked like a storefront building. The act was a white rapper with a smoking hot live band. I snapped a ton of pix with my BlackBerry with the intentions of giving you guys at home the sights from my point of view.

I was texting Grafh back and forth due to the fact I had to leave the hotel before our actual interview. He was headed to Howard as I was about to leave and head back to the hotel. We agreed to link up later. I bumped into my homie ESSO while on campus. E was bent. His eyes were barely open, as I approached him. I was like “Wassup E?” he was like “DG wassup Fam.” He stated, “Damn, I’m high…” I told him I would hit him later before I split. I also bumped into my man Brian Scott from my hometown of Macon. B Scott was just vibing on campus. I asked for his boy Dr. Miles who was the promoter for my party that night at The Park. Dr. Miles was somewhere on campus he stated. I dapped him up, and was ghost.
I received an invite to come and see Ryan Leslie at Zanzibar while on campus.
To kill some time I ironed my clothes and prepped for my party at The Park that night.
My BlackBerry chirped with a text from Grafh stating he was down stairs in the lobby. I went down with my video camera to meet him. He was joined by his crew (Jabari & them) and a couple of dime brizzles. H told him the hotel manager wouldn’t let me set up in the lobby, but he was like fuck that let’s do it right here (lobby couch). I placed the camera facing him and started my intro “What up, what up, this is your boy Don Ghotti…” Stay tuned for the video.
Marv and I met with my assistant Yanni and we all headed to Zanzibar to check out the R Les show!
We got to the door and as we were about to enter, I glanced and saw Ryan Leslie standing behind us near the line. He was just standing chatting with some or his entourage before the screaming and hollering started. Ladies were calling his name and screaming. I was thinking all of this with one video and minimum press. The music biz is rewarding. I snapped a blurry pix and he darted away telling the ladies he was just doing sound check and he'll be back. We never got in because I only have a Credit card and no Cash! Bummer.
so we caught a cab and headed to The Park!
We got to The Park and I asked for the promoter Dr. Miles at the door.
He surfaced dressed to the nines acting a little SHADY! We entered the club and walked around.
I grabbed a few drinks and went up to the top floor. The Hip Hop floor. the music was banging, but the people were rather POSH!!! We jetted after only one drink and Marv and I headed back to the telly to retire before leaving the next day!!!
I hate to say DC, but I DID NOT ENJOY myself at that club. The city was great, I really dug China town and seeing my Cousin Raul oh, and can't forget my assistant Yanni. The Park was blah, blah, yawn... !!!
Here are some parting shots!
FIN
;)
