It's a battle out here in the entertainment industry between genuine, sincere folks who have your best interest in mind and those that are sneaky, conniving, with hidden agendas. The real question is, how do you decipher whose who in a short amount of time??? It's Game time.
I often liken this experience to a NBA Championship series in the Final Game with 30 seconds on the clock. You're the coach and you must make the final call whether to allow this new person into your life and/or career. What key indicators should you look for??? Let's explore them together. First we'll look at what I call the "Fake Folks" and their characteristics.
The "Fake Folks" are usually "Name Droppers" who feel the need to cross reference others in vertical markets who will bring instant credibility to their situation. You will identify them as soon as the conversation begins. There's something annoying and extremely irritating about them that will irk the hell out of you. In actuality it's not what they say about the folks they name drop, but more about what those folks would say about them. Make sense? Proceed w/ extreme CAUTION. The "Full Court Presser" characteristic can be identified by words like "contract, commitment, lock down, agreement, etc" often used in the initial minutes of their conversation. They apply excessive pressure in the early stages of the conversation to quickly persuade you before you have time to do your much needed research. This person will often have a vague yet muddy background when researched. I suggest www.Google.com when researching this person. Again proceed w/ extreme CAUTION. The old "Fast Talk" is often used with intentions of confusing the listener. Self explanatory. Like I said before proceed w/ extreme CAUTION. The "Resume" is usually brought up at the start of the conversation. They will often build themselves up on a pedestal speaking about vast accomplishments. I'm not going to pound you with it...but proceed w/ extreme CAUTION. Thank me later.

Whew!!! I bet you say that these are about [90%] Ninety Percent of the people that you meet out here am I right??? Well the next question is...where are all the "REAL FOLKS" in this complex industry??? Let's explore it together.
The "Real Folks" need very little introduction. In fact you will have more than likely been exposed to their resume, background, ethics, energy, etc prior to ever meeting them. These folks attract other "Real Folks" much like a moth to a flame. They will attract you through a kinetic energy usually through their sense of humor, personality, humbleness, and the way others in their presence treat them. These folks will stand out in a crowd and command attention even without uttering a single word. "Real Folks" reputation will proceed them. People will relay stories of previous meetings or interactions with them through the grapevine. "Real Folks" will leave you with a "warm & fuzzy" feeling after the interaction. This feeling is extremely rare in this business. "Real Folks" usually proceed with extreme CAUTION when they meet you! Lol.
Please feel free to share a story or two below in the "comments section". I hope this brief blog helps someone out there that's trying to find their way in this complex industry.
